About Business Extra
New Service in Southwark
Business Extra is a not-for-profit enterprise agency set up to provide
enterprise support services for existing and start-up businesses and social
enterprises for the whole of Southwark. It is charged with helping to create
more jobs and local wealth by assisting and encouraging existing businesses and
encouraging new business start-ups.
Why are we different?
The difference we hope to make is that it will go that extra mile
to enhance enterprises new and old. It is a combination of specialist know-how
and a dedication to helping the client to succeed.
Creating a More Inclusive Society
Support is given to help people or groups from the disadvantaged communities
to enter into sustainable self-help based enterprise, in help build a more
inclusive society.
Community Social Enterprise
Business Extra has a dedicated experienced professional Business Adviser to
work with community groups and organizations to help build a new social
enterprise or develop an existing social enterprise.
Professional Team
Business Extra has a multi-disciplinary and experienced professional team
providing a wide range of expert services under one roof, and with an extensive
network of contacts and first class access to specialist up to date know-how.
Funding
Business Extra is funded by the London Development Agency (through the
Elephant Links Single Budget Regeneration Project), Southwark Council and
Business Link for London and the European Social Fund, and is actively
supported by local businesses and organizations including: Supertec Designs
Ltd, The PC Stop, Latin American CDP Ltd, The London Youth Support Trust,
Barclays Bank, Southwark Chamber of Commerce and London South Bank University.
One Stop service
A key feature of Business Extra is providing one stop enterprise
advice and providing easy access to advice. Research found that
traditional business support was being provided on a ’signposting’ basis, and
often after a number of continuous referrals without any result, the client
either gave up pursuing an idea or continued without taking any advice.

Business Extra Joins NFEA
Business Extra is now a Member of the National Federation of Enterprise
Agencies (NFEA), the UK
trade body for enterprise agencies. The NFEA has been in existence for 10 years
and represents 133 members, in 150 locations. Members of the NFEA last year
carried out 140,000 counseling sessions and supported over 20,000 business
start-ups.
Business Extra Gains Customer First Accreditation
Business Extra with the help of Business Link for London
and the London Development Agency has been able to achieve Customer First
accreditation. Customer First is the national industry standard for enterprise
support organizations and endorses those agencies that have a proven
professional approach to provide good quality enterprise support services.
Business Extra Staff SFEDI Accredited
All Business Advisers at Business Extra are SFEDI accredited. SFEDI is the
national standard for professional business advice. All Business Advisers
should be SFEDI accredited to help ensure that the client is properly advised.
